Custom Homes - The Heritage Craft Homes Way

Building a Custom Home Should Be Exciting. We Believe Your Builder Should Keep It That Way.

We love building custom homes. Really.

There is something completely different about starting with a family's ideas, sketches, Pinterest photos, lifestyle, property and dreams — and then watching those ideas turn into an actual front door they get to unlock.

At Heritage Craft Homes, we joke with our custom homeowners that we are basically married for a year.

Because building a true custom home is a relationship.

We talk. A lot.

We make decisions together.

We solve problems together.

We celebrate milestones together.

And by the time your home is complete, we know a lot about how your family lives. That's the part of custom homebuilding that we love.

Custom Means YOUR Home

A custom home isn't simply changing the paint color in an existing floor plan.

It starts with you:

How do you cook?

How do you entertain?

Do you need a home office?

Do your kids need their own space?

Do you need an oversized garage?

A shop?

A mudroom that can survive a Utah winter?

Do you want your master suite separated from the other bedrooms?

Do you want one-level living?

A walkout basement?

A giant covered patio?

A view framed perfectly from your kitchen sink?

Every family answers those questions differently. That is exactly the point. We aren't building a house. We are building your house.

Our Pricing Philosophy Is Simple: We Tell You What It Costs

One of the biggest fears people have about building a custom home is price. They've heard stories.

Someone started building at one number and ended at another.

Material prices changed. Labor went up. The builder hadn't included something.

Suddenly the homeowner was tens of thousands of dollars beyond where they thought they would be.

That isn't how we believe this business should work.

At Heritage Craft Homes, we put enormous effort into understanding the project, estimating it correctly and setting expectations before construction begins.

And there is one part of our history that we are particularly proud of:

We have never gone back and changed a signed customer contract simply because our material costs increased.

We have built through enormous swings in lumber. Supply-chain disruption. Labor shortages. Inflation. Product shortages.

International uncertainty. And all the unexpected things that can happen during construction.

We believe a contract should mean something.

We Don't Want to Win Your Job With an Unrealistic Number

There is an easy way to sell a custom home.

Give someone the lowest number.

Leave several things out.

Get the contract signed.

Then start talking about upgrades and additional costs later.

That's not a business model we're interested in.

We would rather have the uncomfortable conversation before construction than the angry conversation halfway through it.

We want you to know what you're building. We want you to understand your allowances. We want you to understand what is included. We want you to understand where your money is going.

And if something you want is outside the original plan, we want you to know the cost before moving forward with it.

Transparency makes better homes. It also makes much happier homeowners.

Building During an Uncertain World

There is no shortage of reasons to be nervous about making a major investment today.

Interest rates. Inflation. Energy costs. Global conflicts. Politics. Material prices.

The Federal Reserve itself recently described the economy as expanding at a solid pace while acknowledging elevated uncertainty related in part to geopolitical conflict and supply shocks.

We don't pretend those things don't exist. We simply don't believe they should prevent a family who is financially ready from building the home they want. Our responsibility as your builder is to manage the things we can control:

Your plans.

Your specifications.

Your budget.

Our subcontractors.

Scheduling.

Purchasing.

Communication.

Quality.

And the construction of your home.

You shouldn't need to become an economist before you're allowed to build a house. That's our job - to understand the building environment and help guide you through it.

You're Going to Hear From Us After Closing, Too

We don't view handing over the keys as the end of the relationship.

We built your home. We're proud of it. And we want you proud of it too.

Our reputation is riding around Northern Utah every single day with our name attached to the homes we've built.

That matters to us.

Custom homeowners become part of the Heritage Craft Homes family. Many become friends. Some come back and build again.

Some send us their children. Some send their neighbors.

That's the business we want.

If You Can Dream It, Let's Talk About Building It

Maybe you already own the land. Maybe you're looking for property. Maybe you have architectural plans.

Maybe you have nothing more than a folder full of pictures and a rough idea of your budget.

That's okay. That's where custom homes begin.

Bring us the idea.

We'll start working through the rest together.

For the next year, we'll probably be talking quite a bit anyway.

Remember - We're about to get married.
